.The Resource Journal is one of my very favorite parts of the ZONES Math Framework. I utilize it everyday with my students. I don't know what I ever did without it! At the end of the year, Christi and I just marvel over how beautiful it looks. But how does it begin?
I start each year armed with a brand new crisp white notebook, a smooth new bottle of glue, brand new scissors (that I am still able to locate), and a stack of copies fresh off the copy machine (I am a teacher. I do love new school supplies). The copies are a varied mix of what I have deemed over the last few years to be the essential basis for the Resource Journal in 5th grade.
Here is a video showing some of my favorites for original set up.
- I spend about my first week setting the initial ZONES expectations as well as having the students build and take ownership over their new Resource Journal.
Here is an overview of my initial set up:
Front and Back cover - Multiplication Facts - 12x12, 30x30, by factor
Page 1 and 2 - Table of Contents Pages
Page 3 - List of Grade Level Content Standards
Page 4 - ZONES Expectations (found in the Starter Pack Bundle Here) - filled in during the Launch process
Page 5 - MemoriZe Expectations (found in the Starter Pack here) - entered during the launch process for MemoriZe
Page 6 - MemoriZe Mat (found in the Starter Pack here or sold separately here) - entered while launching MemoriZe
Page 7 - On Your Own Expectations (found in the Starter Pack here) - Entered when Launching On Your Own during the Launch process
Page 8 - Notebook Expectations (found in the Starter Pack here) - Entered when Launching Notebook during the Launch process
Page 9 - Notebook Example - entered when launching Notebook
Page 10 - Explore Expectations (found in the Starter Pack here) - Entered when Launching Explore during the Launch process
Page 11 - Play with Someone Expectations (found in the Starter Pack here) - Entered when Launching Play with Someone during the launch process.
Back Pages - Used as a glossary - I use the Marzano Interactive Vocabulary cards found on our site here. I put all of the cards in the glossary at the beginning of the year. I then fill in the cards with the students as we cover them in our content standards throughout the year during whole group or the Notebook Zone.
The middle pages are used for any resources, foldables, etc. that I feel are necessary for students to be able to access the content successfully.
